ARCTIC RENEWABLE ENERGY ATLAS PROJECT

From 29–31 August 2018, the Energy Studies Institute (ESI), National University of Singapore hosted the Arctic Renewable Energy Atlas (AREA) Project workshop participants in Singapore. Initiated by the Arctic Council’s Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG), AREA integrates a range of resources from maps and data to research activities and storytelling, thereby enhancing knowledge of best practices and local action on renewable energy within the Arctic region.

School of life in the north

302 participants from Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) have registered to participate in the Olympiad "School of Life in the North". The Olympiad is held for the eighth time, and supported by the Ministry of Education of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and the North-Eastern Federal University.

Background

This position is part of the section climate dynamics within the department of climate sciences. The incumbent will work for the EU funded project APPLICATE (Advanced Prediction in Polar regions and beyond: modelling, observing system design and LInkages associated with a Changing Arctic climate).

3-day Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG) Meeting was held Monday-Wednesday, 04-06 February 2018 in Kemi, Finland. The Northern Forum was represented by Maiju Jolma-Taylor - Coordinator in the International Project collaboration, Regional Council of Lapland, Finland.

The XIII International Conference “Arctic Frontiers 2019” was held on January 20-24 in Tromsø, Norway.

Beringia is a traditional dog sled race, which has been held in Kamchatka Krai since April 1990. In 2018, Beringia has confirmed its status of the world’s longest sled dog race. The organizers support the national culture of dog sledding, developing both the traditional and the sports component, which is mandatory in any competition.

Arctic Business Forum picture

The 10th Arctic Business Forum will be organized 9. – 10.5.2019 at Rovaniemi Finland. The theme for this year’s forum is Responsible growth in the Arctic

High North Dialoge picture

The conference High North Dialogue will take place in Bodø, Norway, April 3—4 2019. The main theme of the conference is “Business in the Arctic”.

The Sustainable Development Working Group will hold its fourth regular meeting of the Finnish Chairmanship in Kemi, Finland on 04-06 February 2019. This meeting will include an executive meeting, review and approval of SDWG project deliverables for ministerial 2019, approval of new projects and a follow-up work plan.
