8th International interregional Olympiad

The Municipal Educational Institution "Yakut City National Gymnasium" in Yakutsk calls students from the northern regions to participate in the international online Olympiad “School of life in the North" (in English). The Online Olympiad "School of Life in the North" for schoolchildren is held by the international organization "Northern Forum", with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), the Department of English Philology of the Institute of Modern Languages and International Studies of the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU).
Objective: to involve school students in the study of human activity and life improvement designing in
the northern regions.
Tasks:
- development of research skills of schoolchildren;
- development of foreign language communicative competence of schoolchildren;
- identifying and supporting talented and creative children and youth.
Participants: Schoolchildren of the northern regions - 8-18 years.
Terms: February 15, 2019 - March 18, 2019.

February 15 the Organizing Committee will send to registered participants Olympiad tasks by e-mail.
The Olympiad will be held in the form of work on a meta-subject task.
Results will be summarized in the following age groups:
- Elementary school: 8-10 years
- Middle school: 11-14 years
- High school: 15-18 years
Results will be announced on the following websites: www.ygng.yaguo.ru and www.northernforum.org on April 22;
Participation is free (there is no registration fee);
The working language of the Olympiad is English.
All participants of the Olympiad will receive a certificate of participation;
Each age group will have one winner and five prize-winners. In each age group the winners will be awarded with laureate diplomas, and the prize-winners with the diplomas of the prize-winner;
Requirements:

Font: “Times New Roman”, 14 pt, 1.5 spacing. Pages should be numbered (a title page shoud be counted,
but with no numbers on it). Links to sources, a list of references must be included. Attachments should be
submitted to the text of the work: photocopies of documents, tables, photographs, etc. Evaluation
protocols and reviews will not be available.
The structure of work:
1. Title page.
2. Description (no more than 3 pages).
3. References (1 page).
4. Attachments (no more than 2).
Selection Criteria:
- relevance;

We call teachers to take part in the Olympiad "School of Life in the North" under the auspices of the international organization Northern Forum's Project “Schools' Partnership”. The project has been running since 2007. The organizer of the Olympiad is the Yakutsk City National Gymnasium, Sakha republic.
The experience of life in the North which is accumulated by the peoples of the northern regions is an enduring value.
The project “School of Life in the North” is aimed at creating conditions for interaction and cooperation in the dissemination of Northern lifestyle features.

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT PROJECT
The project of the international organization Northern Forum “Partnership of Schools” has been conducted by the Yakut City National Gymnasium since 2008. The project is working on organizing creative contacts with schoolchildren in the Northern Forum regions on the theme “School of life in the North” to study the experience of “how to live in the North, eat, dress, learn, build, and more”. This will open up the possibility of developing in the future a qualitatively new strategy for the development of the peoples of the North in favor of life on Earth. The goal of the project is to establish a cultural dialogue among the youth of the North.

2014
International Online Olympiad "School of Life in the North"
March 4-6, 2014, the International Online Olympiad was held within the framework of the project “School of Life in the North” organized by the international organization Northern Forum with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Institute for the Development of Education and Advanced Training of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia).
Pupils from 2-11 from Amginsky, Khangalassky, Oymyakonsky, Namsky districts, Yakutsk and Neryungri of the Republic of Sakha, Secondary School No. 12 from Noyabrsk, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District and West Anchorage from Alaska, USA took part in the olympiad.
The total number of participants was 194. There were 33 participants of 2-4 classes, 97 participants of 5-8 classes and 64 participants of 9-11 classes.

2015-2016
On the results of the scientific conference of the Northern Forum "School of Life in the North"
February 20, 2016 In the Yakut City National Gymnasium, the next scientific conference "School of Life in the North" was held as part of the project of the international organization of the Northern Forum "Partnership of Schools".
This year, the conference gathered 142 participants from different schools of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)/
The sections consisted of the following areas: “History. Ethnography. Regional studies. Geography. Economy”, “World of hobbies”, “Art history. Architecture. Culture Technology "," Technical Sciences. Maths. Informatics, Natural Sciences, Languages and Literature.
2017
The scientific conference "School of Life in the North"
The scientific conference "School of Life in the North" is held at the Yakutsk City National Gymnasium for the third year. This year, 124 applications were submitted for participation in the conference from various schools of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) districts and regions of the Russian Federation.
A total number of schools participated in the conference is 32.
2018
The 4th Conference "School of Life in the North" was held in Yakutsk and Namtsy
On February 15, 2018, the fourth scientific conference “School of Life in the North” was held as part of the “School Partnership” project.
The conference has various directions: the values of life of the peoples of the North, the basics of healthy lifestyle, ecology and environmental protection, knowledge of languages, sports and creative directions.
This year the conference was held in two places at the same time: in the Yakutsk National Gymnasium and the Namskaya Ulus Gymnasium named after N.S. Okhlopkova.
Within the framework of the conference, from February 14 to March 17, 2018, the online school “School of Life in the North” also takes place.
The sections consisted of the following areas: History, Geography, Art, Science and Technology, Ecology, Languages.
The conference was attended by NEFU students and specialists from ministries, departments, the public council of the parents, as well as representatives of the Northern Forum.
