The reindeer courses were opened in the Nenets Agrarian Technical School this year. Since the courses are new, teachers from Yamal visited Norway to gain experience of reindeer herders training and business dealing in the area reindeer husbandry.
According to the head of the technical school Vadim Osipov, nine students will learn the basics of reindeer husbandry this year. Recruitment of students is still going on. The documents will be accepted until November 25. The course is fee-based. The year of study costs 45 thousand rubles. Not earlier than the next year, there will be state-funded places.
All the disciplines will concern the work with reindeer. The students will study how to herd reindeer, to nomadise, to provide first aid, etc.
Students will be also taught how to make the houses built on ski with all the necessary conditions for living and working of 10 people. The houses could be hitched on to the snowmobile and moved.
It is important to note that students will be taught how to operate a quadrunner, a snowmobile, a cross-country vehicle and a tractor. The source "Krasny Sever" (Red North) informs that upon graduation students will get license for these kinds of transport.
