This special expedition to celebrate 20 years of SOI expeditions will travel from St. John’s to Iqaluit!
The Arctic 2020 expedition will bring together more than 100 high school and university students from across the Arctic and around the world along with inspiring scientists, elders, artists, musicians, dignitaries, historians, thought leaders and innovators. Immersed in nature and engaged in cross-disciplinary activity, students will be inspired, motivated, educated and challenged.
Students on Ice (SOI) was established in 2000 with the mandate to educate the world’s youth about the importance of the Polar Regions, to support their continued growth and to inspire initiatives that contribute to global sustainability. Each summer, SOI runs an educational expedition to the Arctic for high school and university aged youth. The expeditions bring together over 100 youth from all over the world to live and learn in our floating classroom. They also bring on board over 50 educators from all different backgrounds: expert scientists, educators, elders, artists, musicians, historians, journalists, industry leaders and more! These educators help to facilitate our emergent education program, which is hands-on and interactive.
The expedition sails from St. John's, NL, along the coast of Labrador, to Iqaluit, NU. The dates are from July 5 to July 20, 2020. Applications are open for youth aged 14 - 24 to apply! Full scholarships are available for successful applicants. Full eligibility criteria is here.
The application deadline is November 30, 2019! The link to the application is here.
