In 2021, the Youth Eco-Forum will be held in the village of Berdigestyah, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) from September 29 to October 7, 2021.
Theme of the YEF 2021: Climate change and permafrost
Quick reference: The Youth Eco-Forum is held every year, or every other year. The Eco-Forum was created to support a comprehensive and balanced environmental education in order to realize the creative and leadership potential of young people in the northern regions. The Youth Eco-Forum fosters a generation of young people who are actively involved in solving environmental problems, strengthens international relations through the exchange of experiences between unique northern regions and provides young people with the tools to create positive change in their home region.
The purpose of the Eco-Forum:
Combining the efforts of young people in the northern regions to preserve the North and the Arctic for future generations in the interests of sustainable development.
Objectives:
- study of the experience of interregional and international youth environmental organizations and associations in environmental activities;
- participation of young people in environmental activities and actions in order to attract the attention of the authorities to environmental problems.
The main focus topics and themes of the Eco-Forum are contribution to the prevention of climate change, increasing the environmental literacy of citizens, urban ecology, preservation of the Arctic and northern biodiversity, etc. Themes are updated for each new Eco-Forum.
Forums have been held almost every year for almost 20 years. In 2012, the Youth Eco-Forum was held in Yukon (Whitehorse) and focused on climate change and environmental balance. In 2014, the Eco-Forum was held in Yakutsk on the theme "Clean City - Clean Planet". In 2017, the Eco-Forum was held in Salekhard, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, with the theme “The Arctic is our home”. From 6 to 10 October 2018, the IX Youth Eco-Forum was held in Rovaniemi, Lapland province (Republic of Finland), the theme: "The voice of young people in the northern regions for the preservation of biodiversity." Youth Eco-Forum 2018 was held in parallel with the Arctic Biodiversity Congress. On October 7-10, 2019, the Youth Eco-Forum was held in Akureyri (Iceland) on the topic “Conservation of Arctic Water Resources”.
