Yesterday, 29 January, a regular meeting of the Arctic Council was held, the Northern Forum was represented at the meeting by Executive Director Vladimir Vasilev.
Morten Höglund, Chairman of the Arctic Council Senior Arctic Officials Committee, noted that the Norwegian Chairmanship has tried to keep the Arctic Council intact and organise its work to the fullest extent possible.
During the meeting, the working groups reported on their work and the involvement of observer countries and organisations in their activities.
Working groups such as the Sustainable Development Working Group (SDWG), the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), and the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) working group highlighted the contributions of the Northern Forum.
The project on digitalisation of linguistic and cultural heritage has been saved in the list of projects of the SDWG. The AMAP noted the session held in the Arctic Pavilion at the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), and the PAME noted the Northern Forum's contribution to an major report.
The Arctic Council Secretariat supported the forum in India and will assist in disseminating information.
In March, NF Goodwill Ambassador Paul Fuhs will represent the Northern Forum at a conference on safe navigation.
We are gradually increasing participation in the Arctic Council activities, and it is necessary to identify our experts to participate in the projects and activities of the working groups.
