International Seedbank for Cultivated Plants and Wild Flora in the Permafrost Strata of Yakutsk Utilizing Natural Cold

Location: Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia

Status: In Progress

The project involves the creation of a seed cryo-storage facility to preserve the gene pool of seed collections from the perspectives of energy efficiency, autonomy, and storage reliability through low-temperature preservation within permafrost strata.
Conducted research has shown that after 45 years of storing plant seeds at a depth of 9-12 meters within the permafrost strata in Central Yakutia (without re-sowing), both genetic integrity, as well as physiological and sowing properties (germination rate, survival rate), are preserved by 80-85%

Establishment of the Scientific Ornithological Observatory "Flight of the Siberian Crane" in the Okhotsky-Perеvoz Area

Location:  A joint international project between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (nesting sites) and Chinese nature reserves (Poyang Lake) (wintering sites), encompassing the territory of the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China (migratory routes of the Siberian Crane).

Status: In Progress

The project involves the creation of an International Ornithological Observatory - a comprehensive center with a modern scientific station for year-round research, including a Bird Ringing Station, as well as infrastructure for ecological tourism: observation towers, environmental education trails, and guest houses harmoniously integrated into the landscape. There's a great emphasis on interdisciplinarity: from monitoring bird migrations to botany and geology. The project will not only deepen knowledge about the ecosystems of Yakutia but also develop strategies for their conservation in the face of climate change.
The International Observatory is positioned as a platform for global knowledge exchange, a focal point that attracts researchers from around the world. It is an example of how science, culture, and tourism can become a driving force for the region's sustainable development.
