Melting the Ice Curtain, written by American journalist and author David Ramseur, is published in Russian for the first time. Author is giving book presentation tour in cities, where the events, that unfold throughout the book, took place.

 

On July 12 in Yakutsk David Ramseur held a presentation of his book Melting the Ice Curtain. The Extraordinary Story of Citizen Diplomacy on the Russia-Alaska Frontier that was published to mark the 30-year anniversary of "Friendship Flight" from Nome (Alaska) to Providenie (Chukotka). Yakutsk is one of the cities included in book presentation tour list along with Vladivostok, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Anadyr, Magadan, and Khabarovsk.

In his book David Ramseur, who was involved in "Friendship Flight", describes the role of citizen diplomats in developing relations between two states divided by Bering Strait.

 

David Ramseur served as press secretary, communications director, chief of staff, and foreign policy advisor to Alaska Governors Steve Cowper and Tony Knowles. He worked with the Northern Forum and was Forum's Alaskan Regional Coodinator.
