Photography Exhibition "The Symbolism of Simplicity" Opens in Yakutsk

Today, the photography exhibition "The Symbolism of Simplicity" officially opened in Yakutsk. Anton Vasilyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation, presented his photographs to the public for the first time. The images were captured in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, where he lived and worked for seven years. The 51 featured works showcase the breathtaking beauty of the Arctic, mountainous landscapes, the daily life of local residents, and various wildlife.

In addition to his diplomatic career, Anton Vasilyev has assumed the role of Advisor to the Rector of the North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU), serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Northern Forum, and is the Vice-President of the Association of Polar Explorers.

In the Author's Words

"For me, this is a deeply moving moment: it is the first time I am revealing what is inside my mind, opening up my soul. A photograph is not just a snapshot; it is a window into the soul and consciousness of its author. I am exactly like the works you see here.

I am delighted that the residents and guests of Yakutsk can experience this exhibition because it offers a glimpse of Iceland that sparks unusual and profound thoughts. Living in this small country—perched atop a massive volcano made up of smaller volcanoes—you are constantly confronted with landscapes and a natural world that feel as though they belong to the very stage when life first emerged on Earth, yet you see how it has evolved to the present day. It really makes you reflect on the future—where we are heading and why." — Anton Vasilyev
