NETWORK OF NORTHERN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE AND BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS

(NNCCBA)

The NNCCBA was created in September 2007 during the Northern Forum General Assembly in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia.

The founding meeting of the NNCCBA took place April 17-18, 2008 in Akureyri, Iceland, following the Northern Forum Regional Coordinators' meeting. It resulted in the signing of a Protocol of Intention by the attending representatives of Chambers of Commerce around the North, and many others signaling their interest in the network.

The following meeting was held in Vologda, Russia, on November 17th, 2008:

Representatives of business associations on establishment of the Network of Northern and Circumpolar Business Associations was held in Vologda, Russian Federation, on November 17. The meeting was attended by Alexander Kobanov (President of the Khanty-Mansiysk Chamber of Commerce), Ms. Telegina (President of the Vologda Chamber of Commerce), Martin Salloum  (President of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce), Magnus Thor Asgeirsson (Managing Director of the Akureyri Business Agency) and Anatoly Kafanov (NF Program Coordinator).

The Network of Northern  Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations foundation meeting in Toronto on 3 March 2009.

There was significant progress towards creating the network.  Founding members reviewed and discussed a Memorandum of Understanding creating the Network thanks to the leadership of Alexander Kabanov from Khabnty Mansisk and from Martin Salloum of the Edmonton World Trade Center.  Initially, the memorandum establishes the Network as a self-supporting organization under the auspices of the Northern Forum. Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations from any Northern Regions may join the network.  Until it is sustainable, the Northern Forum Secretariat has agreed to support the Network on a fee for service basis.  The Toronto meeting participants also “brainstormed”  the Network’s priorities for the next 2 years.  The association will draft a tentative work plan based on this “brain storming” session and circulate it to the member organizations for comment  so that the Network can review it at its next meeting in Whitehorse in September, 2009.

Business Summit
