CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is at the forefront of concerns in the North and the Arctic, where its effects are more noticeable than in other parts of the planet. The Northern Forum is cooperating with international organizations to give the regions a voice in mitigating the impact of climate change in the regions.

The United Nations
The Northern Forum cooperates with the UNDP (UN Development Program) and the UNEP (UN Environment Program) in order to facilitate the participation of the regions in climate change mitigation, as the United Nations recognizes the importance of the regions in implementing programs at the local level.
The 1st World Summit of World Regions on Climate Change, organized jointly by the nrg4SD, the Northern Forum, the UNDP and UNEP, will take place in Saint-Malo, Brittany (France) on October 29-30, 2008. NF regions and other regions are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the various sessions.
The Arctic Council
Amidst the variety of projects under the auspices of the Arctic Council managed jointly with the Northern Forum is the Vulnerability and Adaptation to Climate Change in the Arctic (VACCA). A questionnaire was circulated in late 2007 to the regions, and a meeting will be held in October in Tromso, Norway, to discuss the results of the survey and future action to be taken at the local level.
